Me in front of a Greek sign that I have no idea what it says

"It was Greek to me!" -Casca (I'm sorry, I had to)

After a grueling week of midterms, we were allowed an entire week of for fall break. My friends and I took this opportunity to travel to Greece. I must say, I had never thought of traveling to Greece before, but I was not disappointed! The height of the tourist season is the summer. Since we visited in October, we had prime pickings on the beach. The first day, we arrived at our hotel at about 6am. Fully clothed, we hung around the beach until the receptions came to find us.

A few hours later, when the sun was high, it was very comfortably warm and we laid on the beach.

The next day, we rented ATVs. I’d never ridden one before, so it was a first for me. I decided that when I get back to the States, I want the ATV to be my main mode of transportation. It sure beats walking in the wintertime!(Side note: if you ever find yourself in Greece, we recommend renting from Nick the Greek. He was very accommodating and so friendly! He cut us a deal, too.)We ATVed our way around the island; stopping at Churches, beaches, monuments and tourist shops. (I may have splurged on a delicate pair of earrings for myself, even though I’m notorious for losing jewelry.)

The food never disappointed. While some of us stuck with the basics (pizza, pasta, etc), I tried to eat something new at each restaurant. I had a chicken and mango wrap, a chicken gyro, swordfish, a few bites of lamb, stuffed tomatoes and peppers, and Uozo to finish. If you don't know what Uozo is, imagine drinking black licorice flavored alcohol. And, of course, what would a trip to Greece be without tasting Greek yogurt (sort of)! Now, I didn’t eat this all in the same sitting, mind you.

I’m not sure how many times I’ve mentioned this ins my blogs, but in case you forgot, I’ve lived all my 21 years in land-locked Iowa. I will not turn down any chance to dip my toes in water. In Iowa, the lakes and rivers and such are all a matching murky brown-green. (The type of brown-green that you would expect something scary to be lurking in.) Don’t get me wrong; I love Iowa. But ever since I can remember, I’ve had a fear of the water. In Greece, I wasn’t afraid. The water was refreshing, a little salty, and clear all the way through. When you’ve had enough of the water for a while, you can doze off on the padded chairs and wait for a waitress to come along and ask you your order. But if you’re looking for a destination where you can go on adventures and relax by a beach, I would most definitely recommend Greece.

Side note: during our adventure day, I was scheduled to sign up for classes at about 3pm. I packed up my laptop in the back of the ATV. When the time came, we stopped at a sea side cafe, and I set up shop. I turned a hot spot on my phone and pulled out my laptop and my list. Pictured here is the view, my laptop, and my camera. Not many people can say that they signed up for their last semester of classes on the beach in Greece!
